San Telmo is the oldest neighborhood (barrio) of Buenos Aires, the metropolitan capital of Argentina. Filled with old colonial buildings. Cafes, antique shops, old churches, and traditional Parilla restaurants is a very popular area for tourists.
The small cobblestone streets and the plazas of San Telmo are often filled with artists and tango dancers.
The area’s most famous attraction is San Telmo’s Feria or market. Every Sunday an antique fair (Feria de Andiguedades) takes place in the main public square, Plaza Dorrego, and all over the street that ends up to Plaza de Mayo (city’s most important square).
San Telmo’s Fair is a great place to visit (especially in the morning) to buy antiques, handmade crafts, and souvenirs.
Besides the Sunday feria, San Telmo is one of the best places in Buenos Aires to buy antiques. Throughout the week walk down Calle Defensa and you will find many specialist antique shops run by professional antique dealers.
For serious antique collectors or just for tourists San Telmo is a great place to visit.
